Final Day...

Hello everyone, we have had a great time in Greece and we are just about to be picked up by the bus to go to the airport, after having the only lie in of the week. Once ready, we set of to get some breakfast in a delicious bakery and walked along the seafront and into the town square, before having to come back and collect our bags.
First flying to Amsterdam, then to Newcastle, we aren't really looking forward to it( especially  the six hour wait in Schipoll Airport!) However their is a funny game called 'heads up' on Miss Sinnott's phone, which, we are sure, we keep us all entertained in the Departure Lounge.
See you soon, lots of love:

P.s we are looking forward to coming home to see everyone.

Thursday

Thursday 21st May

At, about, 7:00 am, we woke up and slowly crawled out of bed. Quickly, we got dressed and went down stairs for breakfast. Once we had eaten, we got on the bus to go and collect the children but as soon as we started driving, we stopped. Someone had parked their car the middle of the road. We waited for 15- 20 minutes for the owner to come. Finally, we managed to get out of the kerfuffle.
We , carefully, pulled up to the beach carpark and ran over to sand paint. We painted the sea, the sun, rocks and boats. Both paintings were beautiful( we will show you when we get home.) Then, we paddled in the sea; it is a lot warmer and clearer than South Shields! Afterwards we headed to the restaurant, where the food was much nicer than yesterday's...... we didn't get ice cream though. 😢Followed by a long bus drive back to the hotel, we visited a Greek village where we bought souvenirs.
Once back in the hotel, we got washed, changed and ready for tonight's party, at another restaurant. Tonight is our last night (😭). See you tomorrow night at the airport back in England. Lots of love Anna and Keira

Ps. Sorry everybody, their was a technical difficulty and the blog would only let me reply to Auntie Judith. It was definitely a shame about the weather but I'd rather not do it than do it in the rain. I really enjoyed all of the tour yesterday and can't wait to tell you about it when I get back.
Dad- yes I have got the fridge magnet - I hope you like it.
Mam- i can't wait until next Thursday( lol) glad she didn't come this week, though I doubt you are.
Auntie Sarah- Tell Owen that I'll be back on the plane tomorrow- two planes, in fact!
Miss you all,
                  Keira

P.s.s Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've had a very busy week.

Wednesday 20th May

Waking up at 7:00, as usual, we got ready for another long, warm day. After eating breakfast, we arrived at a sports centre where many activities were planned, however we were greeted by the torrential rain, so nobody could take part ( the games were supposed to be outside, you see) We, therefore, had our snack, which was another gigantic sandwich, before setting back out for our tour.

Thankfully, the sun had came out again this afternoon as we pulled up at  the Cathedral of St. Dimitrius, where we learned lots of facts about his history. He was arrested by the Romans for being a Christian and was put in a cramped cell ,which now remains under the basilica.; we got to go and explore it. He was questioned many times and the Romans tried to force him to deny his religion, however he didn't give in. Eventually, they made a deal with Dimirius' close friend that if he beat one of their strongest generals they would free him-knowing that he couldn't possibly succeed.  Although he was much weaker, Dimirius' friend was victorious as he knew he had the help of God on his side. Consequently, the Romans were furious and decided  to arrested and kill both Christians. Then, when only their bones remained, people claimed that they had seen the Saint guarding the walls of Thessaloniki and afterwards made him their patron saint. Not only this, but the building was absolutely amazing, the art and intricate details were fantastic. It was great to be somewhere so old and important. It is actually hard to believe how old the building is!!
Next we went to see the remains of the original city walls, before visiting the town's most famous landmark- the White tower(it was here, sitting directly in front of the huge building, where Anna exclaimed' Keira, where is the white tower, isn't it somewhere in this area?')

After seeing the White Tower, which used to be a prison, we walked over to the restaurant. A traditional geek taverna. We had cheese pies and salad to start then chicken fillets followed by ice cream. We didn't enjoy it as much as our other Greek meals....except for the ice cream.

Then we walked back to the hotel, collecting souvenirs as we went. Once back in the hotel, washed and re-dressed, we headed back out for a visit into the square, where Miss Sinnott got pooped on by a seagull, luckily it was only s teeny bit on her t shirt. Ever prepared, she swiftly wiped it away with a wipe (she is a schlemiel.)

Looking forward to a day on the beach tomorrow, followed by a walk around a beautiful village and a big celebration party on the evening. Another busy day!!!!

good night and lots of love from Keira and Anna

Hello Year 6...

Hello everyone,

Hope you're not missing us too much. Greece is fantastic! So far we've spent most of our time in school learning about their education system but today we got the chance to visit the Royal Tombs. This is where Phillip II is buried- he was Alexander the Great's father. We entered the tombs deep underground and saw all of the treasures he was buried with- lots and lots of gold! There was also weapons and armour which was over 2000 years old. As you can imagine Mrs Clark was very interested in this being the history geek that she is. Tomorrow we are going for an official tour of Thessaloniki and taking a trip to the White Tower- this was once a prison! We can't wait to find out more. The weather is very hot and we're constantly applying sun cream!!
We've been fed very well and the girls are trying lots of traditional Greek dishes- chicken souvlaki- which Naomi recommended- is our favourite so far!
Hope you're all behaving yourselves- can't wait to see you all!
Lots of love Mrs C xx

Photos Day 1 and 2

Photos Day 3

Tuesday 19th May

Once again,we woke up bright and early; thankfully we couldn't hear any screeching women last night so we all got a good sleep. Meeting at he Greek school, we quickly got on the bus where we met our tour guide- Anna.she was really knowledgeable and knew everything there is to know about Greek history.  She taught us that Phillip II married 7 times, and that Thessaloniki was named after Cassanda's (Phillip's General) wife.

Time flew by whilst we were on the bus; we arrived at the museum of royal tombs. It was very dark inside as the archeologists wanted visitors to see it exactly how it was when they were found,
Inside of the museum, there were showcases which had armour, crowns, vessels and much more but most importantly there were tombs of kings and other members of the royal family within (we couldn't take any pictures in the museum.) All of the artefacts were thousands of years old, it was unbelievable!  The museum was built around the remains of Phillip IIII and Phillip II burial chambers. We even got a chance to explore them!

Once outside, we all sat down to a packed lunch to eat amongst some very greedy ants who tired their best to join us. We had a HUGE sandwich about a foot long, if not more!! This was followed by a, also HUGE,chocolate filled, croissant that was just bigger than our heads (we measured!) , before boarding the bus to go back to school.
When we arrived, we were once again greeted by the Greek children who kindly taught us different handclap games. We exchanged some with them too. As well as this, we were taught Greek lyrics to go along with them, we can't wait to share these with you once we are home.
We met a nine year old girl called Aggelina; she gave us a picture of herself with her name written on it which was really kind. The children love to practise their English with us and are all very friendly.

The teachers were in a meeting so we stayed in the hall watching art lessons and playing with the children. A teacher gave us some sweet pastries/ cakes as a treat which included miniature cheesecakes, chocolate covered delicacies and much more. They were delicious.

After this, we headed back to the hotel on the bus. We had a rest, a shower and got changed to go and get dinner at the highly rated High School Pizza Bar. We shared the pizzas one between two, Mrs Clark and Miss Sinnott got Farmer's pizza and we got Capese. It was delicious. Once we had ate our food, we wandered around the town square and once again ordered some very nice ice cream: pistachio, snicker and mango.

We are off to bed feeling tired, full and excited for tomorrow.

        Good Night,

                                Keira and Anna xxx
